Packing for Sri Lanka: handy tips
A trip to Sri Lanka means enjoying a summer climate all year round. To make the most of your yoga retreat in Hikkaduwa without overpacking, here are our practical, tried-and-tested tips.
The climate: mild and warm guaranteed
Here, temperatures range comfortably between 24 and 33°C. The only chill might come from the air conditioning on the plane: pack a warm jumper for the flight.
The ideal wardrobe: light, practical and respectful
- For everyday wear
Light, loose-fitting summer clothes are perfect. For greater comfort (very short shorts can stick to your skin), opt for outfits that cover your legs slightly. For men, a shirt made of breathable fabric is ideal. - For cultural visits
A sarong or light shawl is essential to cover your shoulders when entering Buddhist and Hindu temples, and to protect yourself from the sun. - Footwear
Choose open-toed styles that are easy to slip on and off. You will need to take your shoes off frequently. In the villa, on the sand and in the garden, you will often be barefoot.
Clothing for yoga and Do In
Please bring comfortable, lightweight clothing for your sessions. If you usually use yoga blocks, you are welcome to bring your own. Yoga mats are provided on site to make your trip easier.
Essentials kit
- Beach & sun: Swimsuit, towel, high-factor sun cream, hat and your toiletries.
- Rain & sun: A small folding umbrella is very useful. It protects you from sudden showers as well as the strongest rays.
- For the session: Your reusable water bottle.
One last tip: travel light!
If you forget something, don’t worry: you can find the essentials there. The aim is to focus on the experience, not on your luggage.
- For everyday wear
-
Preparing for your trip: a handy checklist
To ensure your arrival in Sri Lanka goes smoothly, here are the essentials to sort out before you leave.
Flight tickets & budget
- Book your return flight.
- The estimated cost from France is around €1,000 per person, including checked luggage.
Travel insurance
- Take out comprehensive travel insurance. This is often included with your payment card or when you purchase your ticket, but do check the details.
- Key points to check: repatriation, on-site assistance, and, above all, cover for scuba diving (snorkelling/scuba), which is often excluded from standard policies.
- Luggage insurance is optional but recommended.
Entry formalities: visa & passport
- Passport
It must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date. - Tourist visa (ETA)
Cost: approx. €50. Mandatory. You can easily obtain it online via the official Sri Lankan immigration website - Tip
Apply several days in advance. You will receive your electronic ETA by email: print it out and/or save a copy on your phone.
Health & Vaccinations
- For a two-week stay in coastal and cultural regions, you simply need to be up to date with your routine vaccinations (DTP, MMR, etc.).
- A booster for hepatitis A and typhoid is often recommended. Consult your doctor or an international vaccination centre for the latest recommendations.
For our organisation
To personalise your experience and ensure your comfort and safety, please let us know:
- Any food allergies or specific dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.).
- Your level and experience in scuba diving (beginner snorkeller / certified scuba diver).
- Your surfing level (complete beginner or already experienced).
We are here to help with any questions you may have regarding these preparations.
